In the morning, when you wake up, you have that suffocating feeling of going to your office. You feel a huge need to escape but you don’t know why. You love what you do and you believe that what you do bring goodness in this world. But you are overwhelmed and wanted to get out.
Here are some telling signs that you really need to escape and delegate:
1. You have an overflowing To-Do list
You come into your office in the morning and the first thing you do is to look at your to-do list which seemed to have turned bottomless over night. Piles and piles of work have accumulated over time and you rarely check off anything on that list anymore. Instead of getting things done, you don’t seem to run out of things to do and just keep adding more items in your to-do list. As soon as you finish jotting down, you stand up, make yourself a coffee and do something else (which is not included in your to-do list).
2.You have a messy desk and a messy head
On top of your desk are books, notes, meeting agendas, learning materials, business cards, bills, children’s art work, and things you don’t even know who it belongs to. You hardly touch anything on top of your desk because you’re afraid it might just aggravate. Or even worse, you can hardly open your office door with all the clutter inside.
At night, your mind keeps wandering on to-do lists but never actually get anything done. Hence it results to worry, anxiety and even more chaos.
3. You missed out on an important event
You accepted a meeting with a client, posted a note on the cork board, but still miss out on attending one. You keep re-scheduling client meetings or even miss out on your family’s important events. You start to lose track of your friends’ birthdays. Your daughter reminded you were asked to go meet up with her teacher and failed to show up at all.
4. You are losing clients and no longer profitable
You keep signing new contracts every single week only to lose them the following week. Income has tremendously gone down as your to-do list, expenses and overwhelm continue to sky-rocket. You keep doing menial and administrative tasks which are not generating any profit at all.
Is this you? Don’t worry, you are not alone in this.
I have been on this boat several times in my life and I have also seen peers go through this hell-ride on being an entrepreneur. The good news is, you don’t have to stay in here. You are smart and a genius and that is why today you will start taking action.
Start with Acceptance. Be honest with yourself and accept the fact that you can’t do everything all by yourself. There isn’t a magic formula (yet) or pixie dust to fix every single thing in your business. Accept that this will require hard work, perseverance, and passion. This includes stepping out of your comfort zone and asking help from either your family, friends or even virtual assistants to help you get more things done.
It’s your turn, is this you? Have you gone through overwhelm the past few months? How did you cope with it? Post your comments below!
